Blue like Jazz
Hey if any one reading this has read blue like Jazz could you tell me something about it?
This blog is mainly a blog that puts forth ideas. It is not about my life all the time. However, sometimes you will find postings about what I have been doing. It is mainly to motivate Christ centered thought.

A brief review: First off, I loved Miller's first and little know book Prayer and the Art of Volkswagen Maintenance. I even went and bought a 1971 VW bus, but it died. I would like another one.
Basically the book doesn't have a point because is it a good work of postmodernism. It is just Miller trying to explain his experiences over the past couple years in light of a view of Christianity that is truly his own. He wants to get people to rethink "church" and "spirituality" but doesn't really offer a firm picture of what it means to do this. It is pretty much just not how we are doing things now.
I had many experiences with this book. I read a sample chapter online when I was stuck in Israel without a passport or wallet. The chapter I read was his chapter on love. I was shortly to be married and stuck in a far away land all a lone. It was such a beautiful and probably the best chapter in the book. I was excited about reading the rest, but was greatly let down. I find Miller's life carnal at points, but he seems to justify it by saying that he is just trying to relate.
I enjoyed the fact that he often mentioned, I hesitate to say focused due to the ADD nature of the book, beauty. Beauty is a wonderful side of life and God that is often overlooked.
Also, he has lots of criticism of the modern church, but like most people, doesn't have any solutions. I know a postmodern person doesn't have a problem with this, but as a Christian I do. If you want to critique something you need to hold it up to the Bible and see what overlaps and what doesn't.
Overall I find his first book better written. I find Miller a wonderful writer that can use words the way a painter uses his brush. I don't like the lack of consistent thought or a point, but I am sure that is a virtue to some. Also, he paints some straw man arguments. If you find my review a bit scattered, I did that on purpose. It is written in the same vein of the book.
