Advice

I am given a lot of advice. I find it interesting that I am quick to dismiss some peoples advice and gling to others. For instance normally when a peir gives me advice I am thankful that they were willing to share but am very slow to listen to what they say. Although their is even exception to this. About a hand ful of my friends that have lives that reflect proven character and a steadfast determination to follow after the Lord I listen to carefully. A voice of Wisdom that I trust everytime I hear it is Proverbs. Though I say I trust it. I wish that this trust could be demonstrated consistantly. For though I know that what I am told is true and I see more and more evident. I too often fail and I act as if I am a slave of sin and not a slave to the righteousness that I have been granted through faith. My parents are extreemly wise people and have lived life and observed life. When I ask them for advice and they give it I have yet to see how following it has been bad. Yet, isn't that the message that Proverbs gives to us time and time again. Obedience to God is life and peace. However, we constantly fight against this life and peace that we are freely given and struggle to obtain death in sin. Their is a reason I write this.

One is that personally as all men I struggle with doing what is right in every day life. Love over hate ect... However most people that read this are cedarville people. So let me relate this to Cedarville. There are not very many rules at Cedarville. The rules that we do have promote Godly character and it would be hard to say that a rule at Cedarville goes against the character of God. However students complain about dress code. Why because they want to dress how they want without being told how they must dress. Then when they are given a fine for volentarily breaking these rules treat those who punished them as if they were in the wrong. I suppose one of the ones that I find most ironic is that pertaining to dorm life. I have to do room checks once a week. That means that for Me you must have a room that is decent 1 out of 7 days each week. So when I write people fines some of the things I hear are things like this is stupid I am not a kid why do I have to clean my room. Now when I steep back and think about this statement I am confused. Here is a person claiming to be an adult yet does not want to live in a clean room because he is lazy. So what he says to me to try to make me feal like I did something wrong is your treating me like a child because you are making me clean my room. What I want to say to that guy is well if you want to be treated as an adult then do not complain about missing the mark. Instead pay the fine and next week be responsible and clean your room. Could you imagine your mom saying hey do not get angry at me the house is dirty I am an adult I do not have to clean my house. No, we would say that she is a bad house wife or lazy or whatever. i quess why I am writting this is because I am thinking about how to talk to guys in my dorm and make them realize that if we actually abide by the rules of Cedarville and practice this discipline in our lives it will make us more responsible and will show that we are men of character that respect the authority set up by God above us. Well that is all for my posting today. Have a great Sunday.

Tim
